Lure coursing is a favorite of Ridgebacks. These events are open to all sighthounds of which the ridgeback is included.
This program tests the dog's instinct to follow a lure by its sight ability. These events are held in large fields while
a pulley system moves a white plastic bag (akc "bunny") along a predetermined path. Several ridgebacks run
at a time and are judged on several things such as speed, agility and how well they follow the lure. Ridgebacks are very
smart and it doesn't take long before many of them will "cheat" and cut across the field because they know exactly
where it is going to go. This is a big "no-no" to the judges. Dogs can earn titles for this event. Any purebred
ridgeback can participate as long as they are registered with the AKC and are at least one year old. For more information on lure coursing, check
our links page or go to the AKC or the ASFA.
